Graphic design advanced

Entry requirements: having working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Ideally, you followed the Parnassos Graphic Design course. This is not an entry-level course.

Design, that’s what you’ll do in this course. At the start of the course, you will give yourself a large design assignment, a case. This is a project of your choice, for which you will design several things during the course. Think along the lines of a logo and identity for your own personal brand; a branding identity for your paper or thesis with matching slide presentation; or promotional materials for an event, such as a poster, flyer, and social media templates.

During the course, we’ll discuss your work-in-progress. Together, we’ll help turn your design into reality!

What you’ll learn

• Taking a design concept from sketch to finished product
• Gaining deeper knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign — and how to combine them seamlessly
• Mastering advanced typography tricks and color palette techniques
• Creating captivating designs using storytelling principles and Gestalt theory

Practical information

• What to bring: for this course you are required to have a laptop equipped with Adobe Photoshop (version CS3 or later). You will be working on your own laptop during the classes.
• Think about what you want your case to be before the course starts. You’ll present your case during the first session.
• This is not an entry-level course. If you haven’t followed the basic Graphic Design course, you should have a good grasp of the Adobe apps and basic colour theory, typography and composition already.

About the teacher

Vincent van der Vliet studied Chemistry at Utrecht University and, after graduating, worked for six years in the banking sector. However, his creativity proved stronger, leading him in 2007 to make the switch to Graphic Design. Since then, he has run his own one-man design studio: Bakabaka Design. Vincent has also been teaching at Parnassos with great enthusiasm for many years.
