Back to courses overview

Entry requirements: dance experience is helpful. The tempo is fast!

African Dance: a mix of African dance styles from different continents in Africa. During the course we travel from Coupé Décalé (Ivory Coast) to Ndombolo (Congo) to Azonto (Ghana) and much more! Thanks to music video clips and social media, African dance is becoming more and more popular.

Beginners and advanced dancers swing to energetic African beats. You are welcome to learn these dance techniques while we have fun and imagine ourselves in the warm heart of Africa!

Eva is currently touring with her dance crew, so occasionally an experienced substitute may teach the class. Members of her dance crew (known from Africa’s Got Talent) will also be present during one or more sessions. A real bonus!

What you will learn

  • Basic and advanced Afro Dance techniques
  • Dance styles from various African countries, such as Coupé Décalé, Ndombolo, and Azonto
  • Sense of rhythm and coordination to energetic African beats
  • Dancing together and having fun in a dynamic class environment

About the teacher

Eva Scherpenisse, better known as Eva Aya Dance, studied at the Fontys Dance Academy (Dance Teacher) in Tilburg and regularly travels to Africa to further immerse herself in African dance cultures. In her classes, the focus is not only on technique and choreography, but also on the cultural background of the African street dance styles she teaches. She takes you into the roots of the movement, with respect for its origins and space for your own expression.
