Entry requirements: You have completed the House 1 course or a similar course.
House Dance is a dance style that emerged alongside the rise of house music in the United States during the 1980s. It took shape through dancers who combined various styles and applied them to house beats. Think influences from tap dance, African dance, Latin styles, martial arts, hip-hop, b-boying, and original jazz dance.
This course is a more challenging follow-up course of House 1. It’s suitable if you already have some experience with House Dance, or if you have a strong foundation in another street or club dance style. You’ll deepen your skills in rhythm, variation, and musical interpretation.
House Dance is built on what are known as “foundations” — basic steps often borrowed from this diverse range of styles. At its core, however, House is less about form and more about the feeling you express through it. It’s a freestyle dance style known for its fast footwork and constant groove.
In class, we’ll explore the foundational steps, practice them, and encourage you to add your own flavour. There’s plenty of space for personal interpretation, experimentation, and improvisation. You’ll also dance with others — because that’s how House began: as a social activity, a moment of connection, a way to break free from the everyday grind. Step away from your desk and celebrate life with your body, soul, and the people around you!
