Back to courses overview

Entry requirements: none

In this course you will learn the basics of the popular Middle Eastern dance Dabke. Dabke is a folk dance seen widely in countries such as Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan. The dance varies by country and even by village, but there are a few basic principles that recur everywhere. The Dabke is danced by people of all ages, men and women, and on various occasions such as parties and weddings. Dabke also has an important symbolic value and is a way of showing one’s own cultural identity.

In these five lessons, you will be prepared for any future Arab wedding and learn about and recognize different types of Dabke music in addition to the basics of the dance. Everyone is welcome!
