Burlesque 1

Back to courses overview

Entry requirements: none

Are you curious about Burlesque? In recent years, this dance style has taken the world by storm! The grand shows of Dita Von Teese are a prime example. Burlesque is derived from the word “Burla” (Joke), which is frequently used in Burlesque shows. It’s a delightful way of movement and expression, and a means to enhance self-awareness and self-confidence.

This course aims to introduce you to the basics of Burlesque, especially if you’ve never done it before. You’ll learn the showwalk, beautiful movements, and end with a short choreography in our theatre.

What you will learn

  • Introduction to Burlesque, including showwalk and beautiful movements
  • Short choreography
  • Self-awareness and a significant boost in self-confidence

About the instructor

Jolie Re’belle is a burlesque artist from the Netherlands. She has been teaching burlesque classes at Parnassos for several years and also performs herself. She also designs the shows for Cat Eye Cabaret, a burlesque group in Utrecht. Her classes are designed to help you switch off your mind and get into your body, and to challenge you to step out of your comfort zone. In burlesque, it’s not just your dancing that matters; your charisma and humour are just as important. So there’s plenty of room in the classes to experiment, laugh and cheer each other on.
